Department of Performing Arts

Started in June 2013 (formerly known as the Centre for Music and Performing Arts) under the School for the Study of Culture, the Department concentrates on giving training in the basic and advance concepts of Hindustani Vocal Music and Theatre Arts to make successful practitioners and researchers in the society, where live interaction can lead to new terrains of experience and intellect. The programs offered in the department integrate theory with practice, art with technology, and artists with the audience. The objective of the department is to empower students through rigorous training in new contexts with rapidly changing contemporary culture and technology.

To create an interactive and interdisciplinary approach where traditional art practices will be analyzed and adapted into the contemporary socio-cultural contexts.

Mission

Area of research
  • * Focus on analytical, creative, and intuitive understanding to strengthen the existing PG and PhD programmes.
  • * To start a Bachelors of Performing Arts Programme as per the NEP 2020.
  • * Emphasize Digital Technology in Arts-in-Education, Arts Management and Community Arts Therapy.
  • * Strengthen research programmes to develop global resources with a special focus on Jharkhand.
  • * Develop active outreach programmes through workshops and online courses.
  • * Set up State of Art studios to teach & train the latest technologies of Theatre Arts, Music.
  • * Provide an education for the greater University community through appreciation and performances and enrich the cultural and educational life of the campus, city, state, and region.

CAREER PERSPECTIVE AND EMPLOYABILITY CHANCES:

Depending on an individual's interests and area of specialization, MPA-Vocal Music program can lead to a variety of professional prospects, such as freelance performer in the popular music industry as playback singer, music composer, or in the field of academics. They may be inducted as a supervisor, manager of musical projects or events. Depending on an individual's interests and area of specialization, MPA-Theatre Arts students may opt a variety of professional careers. After earning a master's degree, they can choose from a variety of fields such as art teacher, actor, director, and playwright, light designer, set designer, etc., and can work in the film industry, multimedia entertainment, and production companies. This program also serves as a springboard for research.
